Welcome to our cinema and to an evening filled with movie, drinks and – of course – popcorn!

It is 29 July 1890 and an injured man stumbles down a street in the small French town of Auvres. He presses his hands against a fresh gunshot wounds in his stomach. The man is Vincent Van Gogh, at the time unknown to the outside world, today one of history’s greatest artists. His tragic death is surrounded by mystery and speculation: who was it that shot? Was it really a suicide? The film “Loving Vincent” focuses on the mystery surrounding the artist’s death and takes place a year later. From Arles in Provence his friend sends his son Armand to Paris to hand over Vincent’s last letter to his brother Theo, who now also died. Once he reaches Auvres, Armand quickly get up to speed with the previous happenings and takes on the role as an detective and tries to unravel what really happened. Real actors, including Saoirse Ronan and Chris OÉDowd, have been filmed in front of greenscreens and then, by rotoscope technology painted frame by frame, to form a long movie. Six years of tireless work by 125 artists has resulted in the world’s first oil painted long video. 62 450 (!) hand painted frames mould the life of Vincent van Goghs already vibrating still picture world – the result is something we have never seen before. The portrait ÊLoving Vincent “turns the screen into a canvas. The story has been created as a dreamy art walk through loads of Vincent van Gogh’s most famous works.
